Sedating medications for fear of flying or MRI/scan procedures

Our GPs do not prescribe diazepam or other sedating medicines for fear of flying or other travel, as this is not an NHS service and there are important safety concerns.

We recommend non‑medication approaches such as airline fear‑of‑flying courses or psychological support.

British Airways: Flying with Confidence | Special assistance | British Airways

Virgin: How to cope with a fear of flying | Virgin

EasyJet: Courses | Fearless Flyer (easyjet.com)

We also do not prescribe sedation for MRI or other scans. If you feel you need sedation for a scan, please contact the hospital or imaging department arranging your test, as they are responsible for assessing and providing this if appropriate.
